BimBamBoo
About the Company
BimBamBoo is a sustainability-based toilet paper company based in Minnesota. Their toilet paper is both sustainable, health-forward, and high quality.

As part of my work in DesignU, I conducted research on the BimBamBoo's current branding, gave strategy advice, then redesigned the packaging of their trial roll.

Brand Research and Strategy
The focus of Research and Strategy was to identify what BimBamBoo currently displayed to the world. The secondary part of the research stage was to gather information on a new customer base that BimBamBoo was considering: college students. To do this, we conducted interviews with students and gathered information on a google form with more than 80 responses.

Packaging Redesign
Our team was tasked with redesigning the packaging of BimBamBoo's trial roll box. The goal of these boxes was to create a unique and memorable unboxing experience for first-time buyers. In addition, our team found that it would be interesting if the packaging was transformable such that the user could reuse the packaging for an alternative use. This would keep the BimBamBoo branding in a trial user's house and it would speak to the company's environmental image as it would divert packaging from the landfill.

Initial Prototype
This initial prototype was created based on the origami way to fold a box, but the dimensions and shape were adjusted such that it formed a cubic box with panda-shaped ears. A basic design was sketched and the prototype was made from a manilla folder.

Through this concept, it was realized that if the box was turned inside out, then a different design could be on the inside and serve as an alternative way to hold the toilet paper when not in use.

Second Prototype (Scale Model)
This prototype followed the same plan as the previous one, but it was made with a printed design and the material was changed to vinyl to see if the folding mechanism would still work. In this stage, the folding lines, cutout and design were also digitized.
